The "Partners" tab holds your direct messages, where you can communicate via text, voice notes, and audio or video calls. Image sharing is also possible, though typically enabled after you've chatted for a while and built some rapport.

To aid language learning, the chat includes built-in tools (Copy, Correct, Comment, Translate, Speak). Not all communication tools are available in group chats, but the Correction feature is present.

I must note, the language tools are quite effective. A feature to save words to a personal vocabulary list would be a welcome addition, though you can always manually note them down for later study.

Tandem's latest feature is an English proficiency certificate. For a small extra fee, you can take the test directly in the app and receive a certificate for these CEFR levels:

• Beginner (A2)
• Intermediate (B1)

Messages started flooding in the moment my application was approved. It was one new chat request after another—I hadn't even finished setting up my profile! Within my first 20 minutes, I received 20 chat requests.

I found that setting my status to "Appear Offline" reduced the rate of new chats. So, I highly recommend doing this as soon as you log in.

I appreciate the policies aimed at keeping Tandem focused on language exchange, but the app's vibe can sometimes feel similar to a dating app, particularly with a Tandem Pro subscription.
